  • Notes 
    • Ian Froome Wilson was born Ian Froome Mack in Southampton on 2nd December 1896. After schooling at Christ Hospital School, Horsham he joined Ordnance Survey on 1st July 1912. Ian was following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who were engraver and draughtsmen at Ordnance Survey. After service in WW1 where he was awarded the Military Cross, he returned to Ordnance Survey. Record show he was seconded from Ordnance Survey to the Surveyor Generals Office, Ceylon. He resigned from Ordnance Survey in January 1928 to take an appointment in Ceylon. Ian was appointed CBE in the 1950 New Years Honours. He changed his name to Ian Froom Wilson by deed poll.
