He had six siblings, Thomas Leamer, Jessie F L, Llewellyn Ralph, Annie Elizabeth, Lewis Edwyn, and Wilfred Allan. His father was employed on the Ordnance Survey as a Royal Engineer and a civilian. 1891: 15 Cliff Road. Southampton. Rowland's father, and Brothers Thomas and Llewellyn worked at Ordnance Survey. 1901: 15 Cliff Road. Southampton. Rowland and his Father worked at Ordnance Survey. 02 Apr 1911: 11 Harborough Road, Southampton. Rowland and his Father worked at Ordnance Survey. Rowland married Eliza Ann Ellen Duggan in 1912 in Southampton. They had a child Gwyneth Hilda born in Southampton on 19 Nov 1916. Sapper Rowland Hugh Jones, 6 Provisional Company, Royal Engineers died of heart failure on 12 May 1917. He is remembered on the Ordnance Survey War Memorials and the Stoneham War Shrine. His Commonwealth War Grave is in the Soutampton (Hollybrook) Cemetery.
