  • Notes 
    • John Samuel Pattison was born in 1888 in Durrus, County Cork as the child of John Pattison and Mary Pattison. He had at least six siblings, namely: William Edward, George Henry, Kathleen, Mary Frances, Henry Victor, and Elizabeth Margaret.
      On 2 April 1911 John Samuel was employed as a Chainman on Ordnance Survey in Ireland.
      4 September 1914: John enlisted into 98 Field Company, Royal Engineers. John arrived in France on 11 September 1915, his company was part of the British 21st Division. From 1 to 14 November 1917 sections of 98 Field Company were deployed on work near Polygon Wood. The unit War Diary records casualties of 5 killed and 2 wounded in this period.
      Sapper John Samuel Pattison, 98 Field Company, Royal Engineers died of wounds whilst being treated at the N°3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station on 18 November 1917. He is remembered on the Ordnance Survey War Memorial. His Commonwealth War Grave is in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
